Framework of thought one: Levels

August 20th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Well, as I had stated, I’m cranking out some thinking aides for myself regrading frameworks of thought. It’s a project for me, but it might be useful to others, and thus I share - cause sharing is caring :)

Now keep in mind that this is a project that is me-centric. Meaning, I am not doing the whole “observe, gather data, distill, and try to establish a pattern.” That’s PhD work, and that comes later.

I’ve got the my first framework sketched out. It’s a beginning, and so I no commentary…. yet… nor do I promise to.

Besides, personal interpretation of the image above is much more fun than me telling you what it all means. It’s kind of like art… or maybe not.

Think well. Think fo’ yo’ self.

be good.

Patience is a virtue? I’ll test that…

So, the little feller above would be my nephew. While the wee little lad is indeed more fun than a barrel full of monkeys, he happens not to be a testament to the possibility that I might have some virtue. (For the record though - I’d vote myself a pretty badass uncle, just sayin’)

Instead, the point is that the images taken of this young man were done so with MY new canon 5d (whooo!!!!) back in NH (boooo!!). (Pet hermit crab, for those wondering).

Why is my camera in NH?

Because I bought it from an online vendor on the east coast, and wanted my sister to vet the thing for me and make sure it was as advertised. No sense in sending it across the country only to send the thing back if it were less than stellar.

I won’t be seeing my camera for a couple weeks, my sister was nice enough to inform me that she will be testing my patience by withholding my camera so she can use it on a photog gig she has next week.

PFFSSSHHHH!!! - What?!

Oh well, I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same, and this is a good chance to work on building a virtuous bit of patience. . . you do what you can ;)

be good.

Simple. Important. Your productivity curve, own it.

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

We’ve all got a rhythm about us. A natural inclination to operate in a certain manor.

It’s important to be aware of this, for awareness leads to understanding, and by understanding you can act in a useful way.

The above images is what I would call my current productivity curve. Naturally there are factors that influence our activities, like work, kids, school, eating patterns etc.

If you’re feeling like things are in a funk, maybe you’re natural productivity curve isn’t inline with the external commitments that are shaping your current productivity curve.

The question then becomes, can you re-align your commitments with your natural productivity curve?

So, the important thing that I take away from this thinking is that while it is important to understand and be aware of current productivity curve, it is MORE important to understand that you own the shape of that curve, and can change the shape of it….

be good.

Idea Seedling…

August 16th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The image above is what one might call a seedling of an idea.

I’m going to think about all of the different ways that I frame problems up, see how many of the said ways are robust enough to be considered frameworks, and then I’m going to try and comprehensively communicate them.

I’ll be doing this mostly as a thinking aide for myself, but if it turns out okay I’ll post it up as a PDF or mini e-book and share.

I doubt it will be groundbreaking, and I’m certainly not going to go and validate my frameworks with research to prove that they’re significant, or even accepted by someone else.

No, instead the effort may become an offering akin to that of a spark plug. Simple frameworks + your problems = explosion of solutions. (A best case scenario keep in mind.)

I’m not pretentious enough to posture as an authority, and therefore make no claim on what this work will or will not be, but if my own personal efforts can be of use to others, then a’ sharing I will go.

Stay tuned.

Stewardship

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Here’s a thought for you. We humans are an industrious, memetic (meme perpetuating), self-centric, and virus like critters.

At the same time though we have this outstanding gift of foresight and consciousness.

These two conditions create an epic struggle between our built-in function to “spread” and our ability to “see” what that might lead to…

Hmm… this then leads me to ask about stewardship…

It seems to me that he resolution to this struggle is to take, and value, a perspective of stewardship.

Here’s why -

Yes, we have to grow, spread, act like our virus selves, and at the same time we have to realize we (like you and me now) are not the end all - there will be many more to come. (iIt would be best not to put them in the hole too bad).

So, stewardship seems like a good - no great answer - for appropriate perspective.

However, I beg the question - is stewardship culturally valued in your world?

For me - not so much - but I’m working on it.

Be good (stewards)

And a good weekend was had by all…

August 11th, 2008 · No Comments · Fun

Just finishing up the weekend and now it’s time for bed. Saw pineapple express and went to a wine tasting. I’d say we did well for ourselves. My take on the whole thing: Pineapple express = cool if you like stoner humor, and wine tasting is something you should do about three times. One to just try it, two to figure out how you should go about it, and three to see if you actually like the experience after having learned a bit during the first two attempts. One down for me. Enjoy the week to come, it should be the best one yet.

Be good.

Kanye West is probably my bro…

August 10th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Kanye West, aka yeezy, is probably my brother from another mother. I know, I am one of many who make such a claim.

However, the point is that the dude brings straight heat when it comes to his work and he appreciates design of all aspects.

Check out his blog when you get a chance click here

And as an added bonus - a coldplay video that I pulled off his blog…

Just because it’s dead sexy….

August 10th, 2008 · No Comments · Fun

I’m not a big video gamer. I used to be, but that’s besides the point.

Worldwide, aka A. Woodward, brought Gran Turismo 5 Prologue into the house.

It’s a tremendous game, and the Playstation3 is serious.

The intro to the game is above. It’s dead sexy, and the LA Riots remix of Weezer’s “Automatic” is out
of control.

So, go ahead and watch it a few hundred times. I won’t tell ;)

Be good.
